I grew up in India on a steady diet of stories.  I finally learned to read at the age of six.  I got into lots of trouble for burying my nose in a book at bedtime, reading by flashlight.  Books are magical.  They introduce me to new ideas and transport me to other worlds.  Check out my favorites.

I didn't become a writer right away.  I fell in love with science, particularly biology, chemistry and physics.  It satisfied my curiosity about the natural world.  Best of all, I got to ask questions and not be punished for it.  Take a look at my résumé and the work I did as a scientist.

Much later I became a wife; then came babies!  I chose to stay at home with my children and returned to my love of children's literature.  And I began to write.  It was a dream come true.
